It may to some seem strange that we thus lay stress upon the necessity of explaining what the Gospel is; but it is a fact which has been impressed upon the writer wherever he has gone, that, in this enlightened century, when the diffusion of knowledge is so much boasted of, there prevails even among church-going people a most astounding ignorance as to what the Gospel is.
